We will begin our MAP testing next week with our high school students on September 9, 2026 and K-8 the following week. These assessments serve as important benchmarks to help us identify areas where instruction can be most effectively targeted.

Please help encourage students to get plenty of rest—not only during test week, but as part of maintaining overall health and well-being.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students do their best!

ECE Reminders

BSSD Online Enrollment – Due September 30!

All 3- and 4-year-old students participating in an early childhood program with BSSD or one of our ECE partners, Kawerak or RurAL CAP, must complete the BSSD online enrollment process. This is required even if the child is already enrolled or participating in a partner ECE program.

Families should visit the BSSD Student Registration page and select New Student Registration for a child who is not already enrolled as a BSSD student.

We recommend completing enrollment on a cellphone, as families can take pictures of the required documents and upload them directly into the registration packet.

Families should have the following ready: the child's birth certificate, proof of residency, a parent/guardian photo ID (driver's license or Tribal ID), and the child's immunization records.

If completing enrollment on a computer, families should have scanned or digital copies of these documents available to upload.

Registration is not considered complete until BSSD has received the required documentation.
All ECE students must complete BSSD online enrollment by September 30.

Please begin this process as soon as possible and connect with the BSSD school office if you need additional registration support.

ASQ-3 State Training – Friday, September 4

Welcome Back Wolverines
Dear Shaktoolik School Community,

My name is Sherri Oliver, and I am honored to join Shaktoolik School as your new principal. Although I come to you from Dallas, I am not new to life in the bush or to the incredible strength and resilience found in Alaska’s communities. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in Toksook Bay, Nunapitchuk, and Dillingham, experiences that shaped me both personally and professionally and deepened my commitment to serving students and families in rural Alaska.

I bring 25 years of experience in education, including 10 years as a classroom teacher and 15 years in school administration. My work has always centered on building strong relationships, supporting staff, and ensuring that every student has access to meaningful, culturally responsive learning opportunities.

I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside you as we continue to support the success and well‑being of our students. Thank you for welcoming me into your community. I am excited for the year ahead and eager to get to know each of you.

Warmly,
Sherri Oliver
