Our Open Gym program depends on having a Community Recreation Supervisor in place. If we are unable to fill this position, we will not be able to offer Open Gym until the position is filled.

This position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and supervising Open Gym activities while providing a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable recreational environment for community members of all ages.
Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the school principal to organize and supervise community use of school facilities.
- Monitor and supervise all scheduled Open Gym activities.
- Develop and maintain schedules for recreational facility use.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are used safely and responsibly.
- Clean recreational areas, including bathrooms when used, following activities.
- Work with community members, local agencies, and resource persons to coordinate recreational opportunities.
- Promote a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Knowledge of and experience with recreational activities.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of all ages.
- Strong organizational, communication, and supervisory skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise activities.
- Ability to regularly lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds safely.

Update: The area outside the gym has been cleared and is now open for use. Please resume using the gym doors as usual for Open Gym and athletic practices.
Due to repairs to the septic system, a large trench will be located outside the gym entrance. For everyone's safety, please use caution and avoid this area until the repairs are completed and the area is cleared for use.
Effective immediately, all students, staff, visitors, and individuals attending Open Gym nights must use the north-side entrance (Post Office side) to enter the building.

Community Recreation Supervisor
Shaktoolik's Paul F. Asicksik Sr. is seeking a qualified candidate interested in serving as a Community Recreation Supervisor. This position works closely with the school principal, staff, and community to provide safe, organized, and welcoming Open Gym and community recreation activities.
POSITION INFORMATION
Title: Community Recreation Supervisor
Reports To: Principal
Location: Shaktoolik School
Salary: Placement on the Classified Salary Schedule
Length of Employment: Up to 165 days each year
JOB GOAL
To work collaboratively with school staff and the community to monitor and supervise Open Gym activities and ensure the safe and appropriate use of school recreational facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge of and experience with activities offered through the recreation program.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of all ages.
Ability to plan, organize, and supervise activities.
Ability to safely and regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate with the principal and supervise the use of school facilities for the recreation program.
Clean recreational facilities after use, including bathrooms when used.
Contact other agencies as needed to provide activities.
Contact community resource persons as needed to provide activities.
Prepare schedules for the use of school or community facilities.
Take responsibility for the appropriate use of all facilities and materials.
Supervise all scheduled recreation activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform other duties as assigned.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy regarding the evaluation of classified personnel.

Congratulations to our Cross Country runners, Savannah, Stefan, Evan, and Claire, for their outstanding Wolverine representation at the Region 1 Bering Strait Cross Country 2026 Regionals in White Mountain last Saturday. With 44 athletes from 12 schools competing in the 5K race, our runners demonstrated determination, hard work, and meaningful improvement in their times.
Schedule Update! Wrestling practice will now begin Monday, October 5th.
The money raised will help cover the cost of official competition cheer music as our team prepares for competition.

If you have not yet completed the Migrant Education Survey, please stop by the school office. 🎁 Dorothy has Migrant Education buckets for families who complete the survey!
The survey asks about activities your family may have participated in, such as commercial fishing, subsistence fishing, berry picking, and qualifying travel or camping activities.
Completed surveys are submitted to the State of Alaska to determine eligibility. Identifying eligible students is important because it helps our school receive federal Migrant Education funding that provides valuable programs, opportunities, and resources for our students, including:
• Tutoring and additional academic support
• Paraprofessional support
• School supplies and books
• ANSEP opportunities
• CCR (College & Career Readiness) activities and resources
If you haven't completed a survey yet, please stop by the school office and visit with Dorothy. Every eligible student we identify helps bring additional resources and opportunities to our students.

This is a reminder that our Annual Title I Meeting will take place tomorrow, September 10, 2026, at 5:30 PM in the school MPR.
Due to the severe weather, Subway Bites has been canceled, but we will still offer dessert, lemonade, and coffee for families and community members.
Please join us for a meet‑and‑greet and a gallery walk highlighting what Title I is and how it supports our students. Staff and computers will also be available to provide online registration support for families who have not yet enrolled their student, bring your Snap Letter, or completed the Portrait of a Graduate surveys.

NACTEC sessions being offered during the next high school training Session 5 fliers are attached. We hope your students apply to Session 5! The deadline for applications is September 22nd. Applications available in the school office.
Culinary Arts:
This training will focus on safe food handling and will be a hand on training in food preparation, baking, and presentation. This is one of our most popular offerings and students have really enjoyed this training in the past. If you have a student who likes to cook, and might want to explore a career in this area please encourage them to apply.
Introduction to Welding:
Students in this training will learn to safely measure, cut, assemble, and weld using a variety of processes in this training. Welding is a useful trade in rural Alaska and this training will teach students the basics of safety and fabrication with metal for their own interest or a later career.
Driver Education:
Our excellent AAA certified driving instructors will help students obtain their Instructional Permits and Provisional Licenses and gain safe driving instruction. This is especially valuable for your older students but any student over the age of 14 is welcome to apply. We hope to see your students apply.
